After 30 years picking and packing at a warehouse, Rosa Steinback decided to step out of her comfort zone, and take a job as a personal carer. Little did she know it would turn her life around.

“It’s the best thing I ever did,” says Rosa, who found her true comfort zone with BlueCare, working in the Brisbane Valley region.

“I love going to the clients’ houses – they’re so very friendly and they’ve got some great stories,” she says.

“I used to see people at the shops, taking people shopping. I thought to myself, ‘I’d like to do that one day’, and that one day came and now I’m doing it. It’s really rewarding.”

Rosa’s personal carer duties also include cleaning, to support people to remain independent in their homes longer.

“I hope to make their lives easier, helping them out. I feel good helping them out – so feeling really reciprocates,” she says.

Rosa has developed strong connections with the regular clients she supports: “They’re so beautiful. And they request me and that’s a good feeling.”

She says anyone considering a job as a personal carer with BlueCare should “go for it”.

“I didn’t know how I would cope with it, but I have coped with it, and it’s made me a better person. The clients are great, and I just love them.

“I feel blessed because I think, ‘Wow, you’ve got a job that you wanted to do’ – and I’ve got a car, too, which is fantastic, an added bonus.”

Rosa, who was made redundant from her warehousing role, but still wanted to work, feels this job will take her to retirement.

“I’m glad I got into BlueCare because it turned my life around. My daughter said, ‘Mum, this is what you’re meant to do’, and I said ‘Yeah, this is what I’m meant to do’.”
