Nathanial finds the fun in aged care career
Diversity, fun, and the stories you hear are the things that BlueCare Liaison Nathanial Tarrant enjoys the most about BlueCare.
Nathanial (pictured middle above), who works at BlueCare Kirra community care, visiting people in their homes, says aged care is more fun than people realise.
“BlueCare makes it a lot more fun,” he says.
“I love spending time with our clients and sitting down and having a cup of tea and talking to them and really hearing their story. You know, have a laugh, joke and have fun, and really get to know them.
“We see clients from every background and we love to hear their stories and where they come from, what they enjoy and what foods they like to eat, their gardening – all the different cultural stuff as well.”
He says BlueCare also employs a lot of staff from different cultures and backgrounds.
“We can learn from each other, about each other.”
Before coming to BlueCare, Nathanial had worked in a dementia unit, and also performed as a talented singer.
“BlueCare was something new, something different that I could sink my teeth into. You like to make a difference, so this is my way of trying.”
Nathanial lent his singing talents to the latest BlueCare TV ad, featuring the Daryl Braithwaite song As the days go by (see the behind-the scenes video above). He feels the lyrics had a special resonance.
“That’s what we learn from our clients – is that as the days have gone by, things have changed and things are different, but when we’re all together, it still feels the same.”
