BlueCare Resident to Play Klaid Grand Organ at QPAC just in time for Christmas

A BlueCare Ipswich resident will get the ultimate Christmas gift when he tests his skills on one of the grandest organs in Queensland, the Klaid Grand Organ at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC).

George, who is 84 years old and an accomplished organist and pianist, will play the 6,500 pipe organ which was built in 1985 and sits at four storeys high as a part of an experience organised by the team at BlueCare Brassal in Ipswich where he and his wife are residents.

George has been playing the organ for over 75 years, having been taught to play the piano and organ by his Father when he was eight years old.

Also an accomplished accordion and fiddle player, George has played organ at the Sydney Town Hall, Brisbane City Hall as well as overseas in England and Russia.

BlueCare said George had expressed his interest in playing the Klaid Grand Organ at QPAC and the team at BlueCare Brassall reached out to QPAC who were happy to offer George this one off experience.

“George was very interested in playing the Grand Organ at QPAC and we thought we would reach out to QPAC and they kindly offered him this once in a lifetime experience which we’ve jumped on because it’s important to us to provide these opportunities to our residents” a BlueCare spokesperson said.

While George’s wife Alisa cannot attend, George is determined to share the performance with her and will be filmed by his BlueCare Carer to take back to show Alisa. George will be assisted by QPAC Organist Dr Bowden who will help George to work through the unique quirks of the Klaid Grand Organ on Wednesday.
